The Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission is making this opportunity available through its Tactical Operators Certification Program to present training for Tactical Operators.  APOSTC has provided funds for this year and is involved in the on-going training and certification of Tactical Operators.    We invite you to this training session and hope you will join us in Gulf Shores, AL to take advantage of this free training opportunity.

An attendee will have the opportunity to receive up to 24 hours of FREE APOSTC certified training.

Gear Needed for Training

Please bring the following gear if you enroll in the listed class:

Breaching (Mechanical)

This 8 hour course covers a wide variety of breaching methods as well as planning & leadership considerations,  rehearsals, breaching methods and tools, diversion devices, training and medical recommendations and liability concerns.  The student will receive instruction on primary and secondary entry point selection.  He/she will also gain experience in breaching different types of residential doors, residential windows, screen doors and motor vehicles.  The student will also be exposed to shotgun breaching.  At the completion of the course each student will be able to create or improve upon an existing breaching program within his or her unit.

Tactical Firearms II

This 8 hour block is an extension of Part 1. This block picks up where Part 1 ended, attendance to Part 1 is not a prerequisite. The focus continues to be blending the Officer and his equipment into a tactical system instead of components attached to a body. Teamwork, communication, counter-assault, man-down drills, malfunction reduction, gas mask usage and situational awareness are some of the topics that will be covered.

Plain Clothes Handgun

This 8 hour block is appropriate for Protection Details, Investigations, Off Duty, etc. this block is will provide the Officer with applicable skills required when the polyester is in the closet but the threat is in your face.

  • Concealable Body Armor
  • Primary firearm w/concealable holster (No shoulder holsters), 3 magazines, concealable magazine carrier, belt strong enough to support weapon, magazines and multiple draws (some suit & fashion belts are NOT designed for this) & 200 round of ammunition.
  • Shooting glasses and hearing protection
  • (1) Open front cover garment, (1) closed front cover garment (jacket, shirt, vest, etc.) We will work from both types of cover garments.
  • Long pants, boots suitable for range work.
  • Groin Protection (for Simunition exercises)
  • Camel back or other type of container for water

If you have a Simunition weapon that replicates your duty weapon you are encouraged to bring it.

This block is designed for service weapons carried concealed (not back-up weapons).

Rates are $119.00 per night plus tax for the weekend of April 13th & 14th if you would like to make this an extended stay on the Gulf Coast.

Register directly with Island House by March 15th to ensure that you get one of the guaranteed rooms blocked out for this training event.  Rooms will be on a "space available basis" after March 15th.  The ANOA is also holding their conference at the same time and is also using the Island House so room availibility may go fast at this location.

 

Baldwin County EMC Billeting

The APOSTC Tactical Operators Certification Program Coordinator, Robert Goodner, has entered into an agreement to use an emergency billeting area operated by the Baldwin County EMC.

This facility is located next to Columbia Southern University on the Foley Beach Expressway.  There is no cost for this lodging, however there are also few amenities and several stipulations:

    Officers have to leave the lodging by 7:30am each morning and not return until after 4:30pm
    Officers must  bring their own linens (pillows, sheets, towels and toiletries)
    Only officers may stay on this premises, not family members

This lodging is a military-style barracks with bunks and a community style bathroom.
